Your Digital Notice - Board

As announced previously and at the AGM last week  you will all see changes in the way you book for competitions in 2017.

We must keep pace with the changing world around us and over the last few years we have moved away from clubhouse notices to emails and our website.

This year we took the decision to investigate online booking and payment for competitions and that we would do away with printed subscription notices, fixture cards, entry forms etc saving a considerable amount of time in preparing all the envelopes and posting. All the relevant paperwork was sent out by email and the main fixtures are now on the website. Further information will be posted and updated on a regular basis.

We have now made the decision to move to online entry (and payment) for our 4 main events. We will also be changing the arrangements for entry to our hole & hole and winter foursomes competitions. 

Since the website is now an essential part of the way we stay in touch with all our members we have taken the decision to refresh and update our website and move it onto a more robust platform. These changes will be taking place over the next few months so that we are up and running, the systems all tested as far as they can be, and fully operational well before the start of the new golfing season. Further updates and instructions on the new systems will follow.

The website is your ELLCGA notice board. our website on a regular basis too. Good news for Facebook users - it is intended that as part of the changes to the website all news items posted to the website will automatically go to Facebook too.

Hello Ohio

We have another transatlantic move planned for later this year when Lauren Lee joins Joanne Free in taking up a golf scholarship at a US college. Lauren will be off to Northwestern Ohio University in August. 

Lauren will be the 4th member of our County team who has gone on to American College golf after leaving school.  Lesley Atkins and Clara Young are currently studying there and we look forward to seeing them when they are back for summer golf in Scotland.

Winter Foursomes Quarter Finals

We are now at the Quarter Final stage of the Winter Foursomes and the results of the last round are attached.  The current round is to be played by 29th January.

Hello Minnesota

 

Joanne Free flew out to Minnesota to visit the University following the AGM and Prize Giving last week. She liked what she saw and has now signed on the dotted line and formally accepted her scholarship and will take up her place next autumn.

Prize Giving 2016

Joanne Free has been busy playing all over the country and further afield playing as an individual and representing Scotland in the European Girls Team Championship (where she captained the team) and the Girls Home Internationals. This is Joanne's last year as a Junior and will be going to Minnesota University in 2017.

Joanne came along to the Prize Giving and thanked Wendy as Junior convenor and the committee on behalf of the Juniors for  all their support and hard work.

Joanne also brought along her East Lothian Young Sports Person of the year award

 

 

 

Emma Chapman and Grace Crawford carried of all the Junior's silverware.

Grace won the Spring Meeting and with it the Junior Championship, the Summer Meeting  Scratch and the Summer Hole & Hole.

Emma won the 1st handicap at the Spring and Summer Meetings and the prize for the Two best Net Scores.

 

 

There was a good turn out for the AGM and prize giving and after the Prize Giving the prize winners gather on the stairs for the customary group photo.

At the front clutching their prizes are Jane Herd (County Champion), Keren Ward (Runner up in County Championship), Janet Fairweather (winner of the Summer Hole & Hole) and Mary Lou Watkins (Winner of the Connie Lugton Scratch Prize at Spring Meeting and Winter Foursomes).

Also present are Janette Laing (Championship Handicap Quaich), Jean McNeill (Bronze aggregate), Stacey Cameron (Scratch aggregate) and Dianne Brown (Silver net Aggregate).

 

This year the County took over responsibility for the Babe Zaharias Competition which was run jointly with Gullane Ladies GC. The competition was a great success in its revived stroke play format and was over subscribed. With the assistance of Gullane GC who gave us courtesy of the course and Principal & Prosper who sponsored the prizes the magnificent sum of £3,400 was raised for the Macmillan Fund. Barbara Biggart and Nicky Black (Captain GLGC) presented the cheque to Macmillan before the Prize Giving started.

 

100 Club - November 2016

The November draw was made at the County AGM and prize giving and it was a clean sweep for Dunbar membership!

Fixtures 2017

Members at reminded that there is no printed fixture card this year. An e-mail will be sent out and information posted on the website advising when the sheet is opening for entries to all competitions.

 

Spring Meeting and County Championship Qualifier - Muirfield (HCEGC) - Monday 24^th April 2017.   The Championship and Handicap Quaich will be played on Sunday 30th April and Monday 1^st  May 2017 at Muirfield

Commonwealth Spoons – Longniddry GC - Thursday 25^th May 2017 - Foursomes stroke play

Summer Meeting – Royal Musselburgh GC - Monday 19^th June 2017 - Stroke play

Autumn Meeting – Haddington GC - Friday 18^th August 2017 - Stableford

Note - the dates for entries for the Summer Hole & Hole and Winter Foursomes will be posted approximately 2 months before the commencement of the competition. Entry will be by email and the closing date for entries closer to the commencement of the competition in future

 

The Inter County Team Matches – The Jamboree

The East Division Matches will be played at Stirling GC. As always we will be looking for volunteers to trolley pullers nearer the time.   Put the dates in your diary now - Stirling Golf Club – Monday 26^th – Wednesday 28^th June 2017.

Babe Zaharias Trophy

ELLCGA now facilitate the running of this competition.  The competition was restored an individual stroke play competition in 2016 and it is hoped that it will be restored as a major event in the golfing diary while also raising funds for the McMillan Fund.

The event will again be held at Gullane No 1 on Monday 21^st August 2017. Look out for further details and entry forms.

Note this is an open competition. This event will also mark the 70^th Anniversary of Babe Zaharias winning the British Ladies Championship at Gullane.
