5 A - Side Update

With 7 matches now played between the 2 divisions, North Berwick and Gullane A are undefeated after 2 games in Division ! and Dunbar lead Division 2. There is a lot of golf still to be played though over the summer and some clubs have not yet played their first match.

COMMONWEALTH SPOONS RESULTS AT GIFFORD GOLF CLUB ON 26th MAY 2016

Well done to everyone who played at Gifford today. The elements were not kind and I am feeling much better after a hot bath! Thank you to those ladies who played and marked cards which prevented any 3 balls going out until the 4 pm slot their participation was much appreciated. This meant that the golf was played at a great pace. I have to say the 3 ball at the end may have been slower but from their comments at the end they all had fun. Gifford golf course was in great condition and their greens were lovely too but the wind and rain took its toll on the scores and the players.

Gifford Golf Club were also very welcoming and thank you to Bob for opening early and to Shirley and all her staff for looking after us so well and feeding all the hungry ladies. It was difficult to pull yourself out of the Club after a quick toilet stop where everyone was warm and cosy. The results are as follows:-

100 Club (2016)

The first draw for the new 100 Club (2016) was made this afternoon at the Commonwealth Spoons at Gifford.

Sadly we are missing some of our previous team. Notably Clara Young who has many golf commitments to fit into her short Summer vacation and Liz Dunn Butler last year’s East Lothian Champion due to work commitments. However we are delighted to have a new member Stacey Cameron from Gullane lLadies. Clara Young, Joanne Free and Stacey Cameron will be the ELLCGA team for the Scottish Ladies Amateur being played at West Kilbride next week. We wish them and our previous captain Dawn Young good luck at West Kilbride.

The Jamboree is being held  at Mortonhall Golf Club from 26th - 28th June. It would be lovely if some of our members came to support and volunteers for caddying are greatly appreciated. There will be superb golf on view. If you would like to volunteer to caddy please contact our Vice Captain Elaine Dick.

ELLCGA CHAMPIONSHIP AND HANDICAP QUAICH RESULTS

ELLCGA CHAMPIONSHIP AND HANDICAP FINALS DAY

 

This morning at Musselburgh Golf Club the ELLCGA held the semi finals of the Scratch Championship and the Finals of the Handicap Quaich. It was a dull chilly morning but all the matches were well contested and were very close all finishing at the 18^th hole.

Keren Ward played steady golf against Susan Penman. After a ding-dong battle Keren birdied the 14^th to go 1 up but Susan came back at the next hole with a very good up and down from the bunker. They halved the 16^th in par and Keren won the 17^th with a par and halved on the 18th with Keren the victor 1 up. The second semi final was also a ding-dong match and Jane managed to win the 18^th to win 1 up.

In the Handicap Quaich Anne Blundell had managed to be 1 or 2 up on the way out but Janette pulled her back so they were playing the 18^th all square. Janette holed a good putt to win the hole and the Handicap Quaich.

The sun came out in the afternoon and Musselburgh Golf Course looked lovely bathed in sunlight. Keren took the first hole with a birdie and they halved the next 3 holes. Keren then won the long 5^th with a par to go 2 up and they halved the next 2 holes. Keren unfortunately was in bunkers on the 8^th and 9^th so they were all square at the turn. Keren won the 10^th with a par they halved the 11^th and then Keren lost the 12^th being in a bunker again. Jane had an excellent 4 at the 13^th to go 1 up and a birdie at the 14^th to go 2 up and a par at the 15^th to go 3up. The 16^th hole was halved so Jane became the 2016 ELLCGA champion winning 3 and 2.

Anne Blundell the lady Captain of Musselburgh presented the prizes in the clubhouse afterwards. Everyone who came along and supported the ladies enjoyed some excellent golf and all the matches were played in a friendly manner. ELLCGA are very grateful to Musselburgh for hosting our Spring Meeting and Championships. We were all made very welcome at the club and members were very kind allowing matches to play through. We were also very well looked after by the catering staff.
