COUNTY JAMBOREE AT MORTONHALL GOLF CLUB

East Division Jamboree at Mortonhall Golf Club

 

This morning East Lothian played Fife and Midlothian played Stirling and Clackmannan. In the morning all three foursome matches went to the eighteenth. Joanne Free and Stacey Cameron fought well and lost at the eighteenth 1 down. Jane Herd and Lauren Lee fought well to halve the eighteenth and have a halved match. Lesley Johnston and Susan Penman having been in the lead were beaten back and had a half on the eighteenth. We were then standing 1-2 to Fife going in to the singles.

In the afternoon Joanne had a good first nine in miserable conditions and was 2 under par after 9 and secured her victory 6 and 4. Mary Lou Watkins in the first match played steadily but Elaine Moffat triumphed by 5& 4.

Lorna McKinlay playing third pulled Keren Ward back but after both ladies playing super shots to the eighteenth green halved the hole to halve the match.

Stacey Cameron played well after a poor start and held to win 2 and 1 over Lynn Newton.

Lauren Lee played steadily against Lorna Bennett and held her own to win on the eighteenth 1 up. Susan Penman played well to win against Karin sharp 4 and 3.

 

All matches were played in a great manner, Good luck to Fife tomorrow and look forward to our match against Stirling and Clackmannan.

The annual East Division Inter County Matches  get underway at Mortonhall this weekend.  We will be delighted to see some of our East  Lothian Ladies at Mortonhall to support the Team.

Sadly we are missing some of our previous team. Notably Clara Young who has many golf commitments to fit into her short Summer vacation and Liz Dunn Butler last year’s East Lothian Champion due to work commitments. However we are delighted to have a new member Stacey Cameron from Gullane lLadies. Clara Young, Joanne Free and Stacey Cameron will be the ELLCGA team for the Scottish Ladies Amateur being played at West Kilbride next week. We wish them and our previous captain Dawn Young good luck at West Kilbride.

The Jamboree is being held  at Mortonhall Golf Club from 26th - 28th June. It would be lovely if some of our members came to support and volunteers for caddying are greatly appreciated. There will be superb golf on view. If you would like to volunteer to caddy please contact our Vice Captain Elaine Dick.

After the disappointment of yesterday the team came out this morning determined to get some points on the board.

Joanne Free and Susan Penman put a great fight against Elaine Moffat and Lyn Newton before succumbing 2&1.

However Lesley Johnston and Lesley Atkins combined well to gain the first point with a 3&1 win over Dorothy Ford and Karin Sharp which included a great chip in from Lesley Johnson at the 4th for a birdie.

Last match out was Jane Herd and Lauren Lee against Lorna McKinlay and Linda Dyball. The East Lothian pair were never ahead until the 15th. Having nudged ahead however they held their nerve for a 1up win and a 2nd point on the board. The team went in to lunch 2-1 up and a lot happier than the previous day

The afternoon matches began with Clara Young securing a 2 up win over Elaine Moffat after an exciting finish.

Lauren Lee birdied the 17th to force the match up the 18th and a resulting 2 up on Hannah Robb.

Joanne Free after a hesitant first half had got into her stride by the turn and went on to secure a third point from the singles matches with a 4&3 win over Lyn Newton.

Disappointingly the rain had come on by that point and the last three matches came to an early end with Lesley Atkins losing 4&3 to Lynda Dyball who missed few putts.

Next out Liz Dunn Butler lost to Karin Sharp 4&3.

Last out Lesley Johnston lost to Lorna McKinaly 4&3 despite an attempt at a fight back with an excellent birdie 2 at the 13th.

The afternoon matches resulted in a 3all draw and an overall result of 5-4 which was good enough to secure 2nd place. Congratulations and thanks to all the team for their contribution to the competition on and off the course and to all the trolley pullers for their valuable assistance in supporting the team as they navigated their way around the course.

DAY 2 AT SCOTSCRAIG GOLF CLUB

Day 2 started bright and sunny but the sun did not shine on us and like the sunshine our hopes of wins came and went.

Leading the Foursomes  Jane Herd and Clara Young struggled to find form and went down 5&4 to Kate McIntosh and Wendy Nicholson.

Next out Liz Dunn Butler & Lesley Johnston lost to Hannah Scott and Alison McBride 4&3. 

Finally in in the morning foursomes Joanne Free and Susan Penman battled hard before going down 3&2 to Louise Fraser and Gabreille MacDonald.

Disappointed but undaunted the team set off again for the afternoon singles.

Clara Young started out slowly before before fighting back but sadly went down 3&1 to an in form Gabrielle MacDonald. 

Lesley Atkins struggled with her driving before going down 7&6 to an on form Hannah Scott.

 

Joanne Free was our ray of sunshine and her steady game won through winning 1up against Kaye McIntosh

 

Lauren Lee our rookie played steady golf but was beaten in the 4&2 by Karen Ferguson

 

Lesley Johnston after a poor start was 7 down after 7 rallied before losing the match to Karen Marshall 4&3

 

Liz Dunn Butler our backstop sadly also lost to Louise Fraser 3&2

Day 1 at Scotscraig Golf Club County Jamboree

Day 1 at the East Division Jamboree at Scotscraig

Day 1 matches were Fife v Midlothian and Stirling & Clackmannan v East Lothian.

The morning matches saw Clara Young and Liz Dunn Butler beat Louise McGregor & Elaine Allison 7 &5 which included an eagle at the 11th. Joanne Free and new comer Lauren Lee lost to Laura Bisset & Margo Gardener 4&3, and Jane Herd & Sue Penman lost 3&2 to Claire Capocci and Mhairi Hall. We went in to lunch 1-2 down with every thing to play for in the afternoon.

Lesley Atkins led the afternoon singles and despite going 3 down after three holes battled on to go down eventually 3&2 to Laura Bisset.

Joanne Free won the first two whole before being pulled back at the turn to one down but turned things in East Lothian's favour by birdieing the 17th and parring the 18th to win a valuable point with a 2 up win over Louise Macgregor.

Clara Young had a resounding win 7&5 over Jennifer Allan.

Lauren Lee battled hard before going down 3&2.

Lesley Johnston had had a good win 4&2 win over Claire Capocci

Back marker Liz Dunn Butler secured a 3&2 win over Margo Gardener to win the 4th match needed to secure 4-2 win in the afternoon and an overall 5-4 win over Stirling & Clackmannan.

In the other set of matches. Midlothian beat Fife 2-1 in the foursomes and 4-2 in the singles for an overall 6-3 win. Tomorrow East Lothian meet Midlothian - everything to play for!

ELLCGA TEAM FOR JAMBOREE AT SCOTSCRAIG JUNE 22nd-24th 2015

ELLCGA selection committee met on 13th May and agreed on selection of the team to represent ELLCGA at the County Jamboree.

East Division Inter County Jamboree - trolley pullers wanted

The East Division Inter County Jamboree will be held at Scotscraig this year from Monday 22nd to Wednesday 24th June 2015. We will be trying hard to repeat last year's success in qualifying for the County Finals.

As always we are looking for volunteers to trolley pull for the team. The good news is that I am told the course is relatively flat. Volunteers are required for all 3 days. Volunteers can opt to "pull" morning or afternoon or both.

These days we normally use electric trollies so not too much actual pulling!

If you are interested in helping please email [email protected]  with details of the day you would like to help or add your name to the list which will be on the desk at the Commonwealth Spoons. 

Everyone who has helped in the past know how much their efforts and time are appreciated by the team and it is a great way to watch top amateur golf and feel involved.

East Lothian Hat Trick - County Finals Here We Come!!

Day 3 kicked off with less sunshine and more breeze, which, from a home advantage point of view, was not completely unwelcome. Our tee times were later with being drawn in the second match so our team had more rest for the 36 holes to come.

Starting the final day in pole position was a great effort from the team and we took strength from the fact that we had been victorious over the two teams that had already won against our final opponents. 

I am delighted to report that the morning foursomes finished with East Lothian in the lead with 2 wins and 1 loss. The afternoon singles got off to a good start with a convincing 5 and 4 win from Lesley Atkins which bumped the scoreline up to 3 points. We now only needed 1 1/2 points more to clinch victory. While the 2nd match between Keren Ward and Kate McIntosh was still alive and close the 3rd match out finished in a win for Midlothian.  Match 2 ended on the 18th with a great 1 Up win to East Lothian so now only 1/2 a point required..........

Our 4th match was another tight affair between Joanne Free and Emily Dalgetty and went the full distance resulting in a narrow defeat for us with a 1 up win to Midlothian. Meanwhile bringing up the rear were Charlotte Munro in match 5 against Alison McBride and Dawn Young versus Kirsten Blackwood in match 6. Thankfully by the time match 6 reached the 17th green sitting at 1 down it became evident that Charlotte Munro in match 5 had done a Martin Kaymer and clinched the last point we needed to win the title. Match 6 finished on the 18th green as a half match making the overall scoreling 3 1/2 to 5 1/2.

Our 2014 County team have been a fantastic example of what can be achieved by mixing seasoned players with the exuberance and confidence of youth. It has been a great experience for all and we look forward to competing together at Hilton Park Golf Cub on 19 to 21 September.

 

A very large thank you goes to North Berwick Golf Club and their Managing Secretary, Chris Spencer, for use of the clubhouse faciities and organising courtesy of the course for the tournament. Thanks also to Tantallon Golf Club for letting us use their meeting room facilities. The course was in impeccable condition and thanks to go to Stuart Greenwood and his staff for their extra work carried out to cater for our tournament needs. The food and catering was complimented by all the competitiors, officials and volunteers and our thanks go to Aex Jones and straff and chef Colin Chalmers and staff.
