ELLCGA Match v's West Links Men 30 March

Captains Report

As a training match for the forthcoming Inter County Matches being held over North Berwick West Links in June, 10 of our squad played against 10 low handicap men on Sunday in fourball better ball format.

North Berwick GC kindly laid on breakfast rolls and hot drinks for all players before braving the elements and our thanks go to the Club for providing this.

The weather was not kind to us with poor visibility due to rolling mist blowing in from the sea on a stiff cool breeze. All players battled hard but sadly the end result being a win to the men 3 _^1/2 to 1 _^1/2 .

Everyone enjoyed the event and it proved to be a valuable practice for all the ladies involved. Thanks to all the men for giving up their time especially on "Mothers Day"!

Pre Season Lunch - 22 March @ NBGC

Vice Captains Report

The annual Pre-season Lunch was recently held at The North Berwick Golf Club. The house was full with 63 ladies in attendance, the maximum number that the dining room could accomodate. The pre lunch glass of fizz went down well with all and judging by the noise levels by the time all were seated in the dining room, everyone was enjoying themselves.

The Captain, Dawn Young, welcomed members and guest speaker to the 8th lunch and expressed thanks to previous Captain, Cynthia Guthrie, and her committee, for being the instigators of such a good idea. She also thanked Barbara for organising the day so well.

Grace was said by our President Carol MacLeod after which all present enjoyed a delicious lunch and thanks were given to Alex and her catering staff.

The speaker on the day was Cathy Panton-Lewis who gave a very witty and interesting speech about her amateur golf including memories of playing against East Lothian when she played for Stirling and Clackmannanshire. She also had many entertaining stories of her experiences in the early years of ladies professional golf and her involvement in setting up the LET. Cathy pointed out how there was great camaraderie in those early days and as well as being serious on course lots of fun was had off course! It was a pleasure to listen to those treasured memories especially when they were presented by one so modest.

A raffle was held on the day and the star prize of a voucher for Archerfiled Spa was won by Margaret Taylor, Dirleton Castle GC. Other prizes won on the day were golf lessons from Martyn Huish and Alastair Good, a box of golf balls and two ELLCGA fleece neckwarmers. The raffle raised £330 which will be used to further Junior Golf within the County. Many thanks to all who contributed.

ELLCGA v's Border Ladies - 23 March at Craigielaw GC

Captains Report

This years annual match was played over Craigielaw on a sunny but cold and breezy day. The Club kindly gave us courtesy for the match which was greatly appreciated. Unfortunately the Junior match did not take place due to illness and injury causing the Border Girls to call off.

After a short practice session on the range by all team members the matches commenced. The Border Ladies Captain, Fiona Ker, took photographs of each match on the first tee and these can be seen below.

The overall result was in favour of East Lothian 2 ^_1/2 to 1 ^_1/2 .

The team members all enjoyed a warming bowl of soup accompanied by mountains of sandwiches!

Thanks to all who participated, and to Craigielaw for their hospitality, we all had a most enjoyable day and look forward to next years match in the borders.

 

Proposed amalgamation of the SGU and SLGA

A Consultation Proposal has been prepared for the amalgamation of the Scottish Golf Union (SGU) and the Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association Limited (SLGA), the two current governing bodies of amateur golf in Scotland, into a single unified national governing body.

The SLGA welcomes comments and constructive criticism of the proposals from all interested parties; Club members, golf Club committees, Area and County associations, government agencies, and all Scottish golfers. So if you have any thoughts you would like the Joint Working Group to consider please submit them by 31 July 2014, before it finalises its proposals to go to the Boards of SGU and SLGA for approval and then to the membership of the two bodies for approval later this year.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Charlotte Munro and Joanne Free

All at East Lothian Ladies County Golf Association would like to congratulate both Charlotte and Joanne on the recent announcements: -

• Charlotte Munro has been selected to represent Scotland in Team 2 at the forthcoming SLGA under 16 Open Strokeplay Championship being held at Strathmore Golf Club on 10^th & 11^th April 2014.  Joanne Free has been selected as a reserve

 

• Both Charlotte and Joanne have qualified for the Academy Winter Series which is being held at St Andrews on 30^th March 2014

 

Well done girls a great way to start the season!
