The weather today was not kind for the championships with driving rain and strong winds. The green keepers of Longniddry squeegeed the greens in the morning and changed the pin positions so the competition could be concluded and ELLCGA appreciate Longniddry Golf Club hosting their championship and also for all the hard work to keep the course open. However the ladies played great golf and the supporters in the afternoon were treated to some wonderful shots.
In the morning Liz Dunn Butler and Mary Lou Watkins played steady golf to win through to the afternoon. Liz Dunn Butler opened with a birdie at the first but Mary Lou came back winning with a par at the first short hole followed by a birdie at the 6th hole to go one up then winning the 7th to go 2 up but lost the ninth to turn 1 up. Liz fought back with a birdie at the 11th to level the match only to let Mary Lou win the next hole to be back to one down but won the next short 13th with an amazing bunker shot to all square. Liz then chipped in for an eagle at the 14th to go one up then a par at the 15th to go 2 up. They both parred the short 16th but Mary Lou had a par at the long 17th against the wind but Liz triumphed at the 18th with a par coming back in 1 under par in very testing conditions. It was a well-contested final played in great spirits considering the weather. Congratulations to Liz our new ELLCGA Champion.
