Mackie Bowl

The Mackie Bowl (an open completion for low handicap golfers) was played at Gullane on Sunday 26th July 2015. The clear winner was Chloe Goadby (St Regulus)  with an excellent two round score of 143 but Joanne Free flew the flag for East Lothian with the best 2nd round scratch score of 74  on her to a joint 5th place finish. 

Junior Girls Summer Meeting

While the final of the British Open golf was being contested at St Andrews, two of our girls took part in our Summer meeting for the Juniors today at Gifford Golf Club.

The course was drenched by the heavy rain earlier but it was dry when the girls started their round. Mixed weather followed them round and it was a typical jacket on and off day.

Congratulations to Catherine Milne who won with a score of 74 (86-12) . Ruth Kowbel had a score of 81 (106-25).  CSS 73.   

 

East Lothian Junior Picked for Home Internationals

Congratulations to Joanne Free who has been awarded her cap for the Girl's Home internationals at Lanark Golf Club from 5th-8th August 2015. We are all very proud of her and wish her and team Scotland good luck at Lanark Golf Club.

European Team Championships

The Scottish Women and Girls Teams have been in action this week in Denmark and Czech Republic. Both teams finished on a winning note having struggled all week. Clara Young and Joanne Free have been in the respective teams. 

The Women’s Team qualified for the Flight B semi-finals of the Team Championship on Thursday by beating Slovenia 3-2. In the foursomes tie Rachel Walker and Clara Young won 1up, while in the single
Rachel Taylor and Jess Meek both won their matches 1up while Connie Jaffrey lost 2 & 1 and Heather Munro lost by 7 & 5. 

On Friday the team went down 3.5-1.5 to Belgium in the Semi-Final. Rachel and Clara won their foursome match 1up and Heather Munro halved her match. 

In the final match on Friday the Team beat Turkey 4-1. Rachel & Clara contributed to the points tally by continuing their winning streak in the foursomes with a 5 & 3 win. 

Over in Czech Republic the Girls’ Team had to settle for Flight B too but lost their quarter final tie to Sweden on Thursday and their Friday match to Ireland.  They came out fighting for the final match on Saturday and beat Switzerland 3.5 – 1.5. Wins were secured by Clare Robertson and Emma Hale in the foursomes and Shannon McWilliam and Joanne Free in the singles. Chloe Goadby added to the points with a halved match but Hazel MacGarvie was unable to join her team mates in the points tally.  

 

 

Scottish Seniors at Powfoot - update

Barbara did well in her Semi Final match against Aileen Baker in the Scottish Seniors Handicap completion at Powfoot yesterday but after a close match Barbara ran out of holes at the 17th and went down 2&1. Aileen went on to lose 3&2 to Karen Maxwell in the final FULL RESULTS SCRATCH SEMI-FINALS Martine Pow (Selkirk) beat Karen Burns (Bathgate) 3 & 2. Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies) beat Frances Millar (Carnoustie Caledonia) 4 & 3. FINAL Pow beat Wood 3 & 2. HANDICAP SEMI-FINALS Karen Maxwell (Milngavie) beat Caroline Kinnaird (Glencorse) 6 & 4. Aileen Baker (Crail GS) beat Barbara Biggart (North Berwick) 2 & 1. FINAL Maxwell beatt Baker 3 & 2.

SCOTTISH SENIOR WOMEN'S MATCH-PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS

East Lothian Ladies are well represented at the SCOTTISH SENIOR WOMEN'S MATCH-PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS at Powfoot Golf Club, Solway Firth this week.

Lesley Johnston qualified for the Scratch Match play before going out in the first round after a tough battle going out 1 down to K Burns.

Dulcie Barns, Sue Penman and  our  Captain Barbara Biggart all qualified for the handicap match play. Like Lesley, Sue and Dulcie had very tight matches both going to the 18th. Sadly both also lost 1 down.

Barbara however was victorious 3&2 in her first round match and again 3&2 in the Quarter Finals. Today she plays A Baker in the semi finals.

Good luck to Barbara today and well done Dulcie, Lesley and Sue in qualifying for the match play and playing so well in your matches.
